The #1 reason for divorce is marriage!

Why does Yahoo’s Anti-Spy logo have the same design elements and theme as Microsoft’s AntiSpyware? What, they are hoping people will get confused and use the other?

Human over-evolved

June 28, 2005

It dawned on me some time ago that maybe humans have over evolved. I wrote a short entry on this on my old blog but since those monkeys at MyBlogSite.com lost it, I will restate some of that here.

Maybe we are an experiment that got out of hand. Or an experiment that they (who?) forgot to terminate. Just like when we find mouldy food and decide to throw it back into the fridge or the basket just to see how much more the mold grows (what, you gusy don’t do this?!), maybe its the same with humans.

Anyway, if the purpose of evolution is to ensure survival of the species, I think evolution could quit once it taught us to use sticks and stones. Or maybe when we learnt to farm as well as hunt. They why all this other stuff? All this extra fluff.

Or maybe its that we are just as intelligent as those ancestors who learnt to use sticks and stones and farm crops but since we have had so much idle time on our hand due to the sticks and stones, that the extra brain cycles kinda got used and we’ve ended up in this mess.

But all things considered, I think we would have been better off if evolution had called it a day a long time ago. As a species we would have been hardier and would have had all this other crap to deal with. You ate, fucked and slept. That’s it.

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Indians ‘world’s biggest readers’

This is certainly true in my home. Both my children love to read (be be read to, in the case of the youngling who can’t read as yet). My wife is a reading demon, tying down the bathroom with her ‘reading’. I love to read, and try to read whenever I get a chance. I will normally have some reading material within reach at all times.

Whenever I come across an new requirement for some small utility or software, the first place I head is over to SourceForge (www.sourceforge.net) and see if there is something there that fits the bill.

I love SourceForge and the whole open source movement. And I can honestly say that 8 out of 10 times that I have had a genuine and logical need, I have found good or great software to meet those needs on SourceForge.

My deepest gratitude to all those thousands of brilliant programmers out there toiling away for nothing more than the love of computer. If you see a ‘Donate’ button, and can spare it or if the software has helped you in your professional life, by all means, Click It!

BBC NEWS | Technology | File-sharing suffers major defeat

So what about Xerox and copier machines. Don’t they now have to figure out ways in which people might use a copier to violate copyright laws. Same with cameras and camcorders. What if you pointed your digital at a copyrighted image and then printed that out?

What a load of crap!

And how about Chief Justice William Rehnquist calling it a day now. Move over and give someone else a chance now!

I have owned a couple of Japanese cars and one European car. And for sure, the Europeans sure know how to design a cup holder. BTW, I broke one that I had on the E-car and it cost me $40 for a replacement. I don’t think that the J-car holders would ever break.

All the J-car holders are recessed, so you drop your cup or bottle into it. This means that when you want to take a sip, gulp, guzzle, whatever, you have to grab the cup bottle from the top and then do this awkward thing where you either drink holding it from the top or juggle it into a more comfortable position. Anyhoo, this design often leads to the “mother fucker” scenario, you know, when the coffee is mid way and the top rim of the cup gives way under the heat and the pressure of you holding it, thus popping the top, which now remains in your hand while the rest of the cup falls, the coffee gleefully getting onto and into everything.

Now, in the E-car they had it all figured out. The cup holder between the seats popped up so that it was really sort of a rim holding the cup in place. When you needed it, you grabbed it from the side as you normally would; you know, the way you held it when you first got it from the coffee shop. Better yet, was the, are you ready for this? In Dash Cup Holder! It popped out of the dash just to the right of the steering wheel. Now, not only can you grab you cup the way you would normally hold it, from the side and closer to the base where it is firmer and less likely to collapse but also, the cup holder is not too far from your field of vision. You can see it and interact with your beloved coffee without taking your eyes too far from the road. In J-cars you have to look down at your crotch and then a little to the right.

Boing Boing: TSA confiscates folding car key, calling it a \switchbalde\

Damn, that is the same key I had up until a couple of months ago. And I have been through DFW recently! What I normally do is toss my car keys into my checked in luggage. Yeah I know its a hassle but I do check in almost all my luggage even though it might be carry-on sized. It just makes life easier all around.

It amazes me how much crap goes on in this small company that I work for. I take one day off and get thrown under the bus in front of the boss by a collegue on that day. And it was something so stupid, I wonder what even made him think that. And totally off the mark too.

Just venting. Don’t want to get into any specifics. He made good by fessing up and also initiated some immediate damage control.

I think I should eventually spin these ActiveWords articles into a separate blog. I’m getting the hang of scripting and liking all the cool stuff I find I can get it to do.

Recently XM Radio raised its rate but threw in online streaming as part of the deal. Sweet. I can use IE or WMP10 to stream XM channels but its a bunch of clicks and stuff to get online. Now I have an ActiveWord that gets me there lickity-split!

I’ld post the script but I think it is a little specific to the way my system is configured so I refrain so as to not confuse anyone. If you want it, drop me an email. And yeah, I am listening to AudioVisions but tht just so that I don’t go postal at work.
